Ardbeg is among the most complex and smoky of all the Islay malts. Despite its smokiness, Ardbeg is renowned for its delicious sweetness, a phenomenon that has affectionately become known as ‘the peaty paradox’.
Ardbeg was named 'Distillery of the Year’ by the IWC in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022. In 2021, Ardbeg was also awarded the Golden Barrel Trophy which is the pinnacle of excellence in whisky making at the IWC.

Yet it does not flaunt the peat; rather it gives way to the natural sweetness of the malt to produce a whisky of perfect balance.
TASTING NOTES
Nose: intense fruit smoke, peat infused with zesty lemon and lime, wrapped in waxy dark chocolate.
Palate: peat effervesces with tangy lemon and lime juice, black pepper pops with sizzling cinnamon-spiced toffee. Then comes a wave of brine infused with smooth buttermilk, ripe bananas and currants. Smoke gradually wells up on the palate bringing a mouthful of warm creamy cappuccino and toasted marshmallows. As the taste lengthens and deepens, dry espresso, liquorice root and tarry smoke develop coating the palate with chewy peat oils.
Finish: long and smoky with tarry espresso, aniseed, toasted almonds and traces of soft barley and fresh pear.
Wee Beastie
Five years old whisky, matured in ex-bourbon and Oloroso Sherry Cask. Non chill-filtered at 47.4%.
Our whisky creators set out to make the rawest, smokiest Ardbeg ever. The result is Ardbeg Wee Beastie and this tongue-tingling, beautifully smoky dram is the youngest Ardbeg we’ve ever mad.
Wee Beastie is a feisty young creature with a formidable taste. It is perfect for enjoying neat or as the mouth-watering main ingredient in a powerfully smoky cocktail.
TASTING NOTES
Nose: intense aromas of cracked blacked pepper mingle with sappy pine resin and a sharp tang of smoke.
Palate: A powerful blast of eucalyptus thrashes about with antiseptic lozenges and aniseed. The raw, smoky intensity gathers pace, before smoked bacon and savoury meats sink into the palate.
Finish: The long, salty mouthcoating finish retreats, with hints of cocoa and fudge slinking slowly away.
Ardbeg An Oa
A welcome new addition to the Ultimate range. Ardbeg An Oa is singularly rounded, due in no small part to time spent in our newly established bespoke oak Gathering Vat where whiskies from several cask types - including; sweet Pedro Ximenez; spicy virgin charred oak; and intense ex-bourbon casks, amongst others - familiarize themselves with each other.
The result is a dram with smoky power, mellowed by a delectable, smooth sweetness. Hallmark Ardbeg peat, dark chocolate and aniseed are wrapped in smooth, silky butterscotch, black pepper and clove, before rising to an intense crescendo of flavor.
