Cutty Sark is an iconic blended Scotch whisky established in 1923 by Berry Bros. & Rudd in London.

Created during Prohibition, it was designed as a lighter, smoother whisky aimed at international markets—particularly the U.S.

The name and ship illustration were inspired by the legendary tea clipper Cutty Sark, with the label’s now-signature yellow color originating from a happy printing mistake.

During Prohibition, the whisky was famously smuggled into the U.S. by Captain Bill McCoy, giving rise to the nickname “The Real McCoy.” After Prohibition ended, Cutty Sark grew rapidly in popularity, becoming the first Scotch whisky to sell over one million cases in the U.S. by 1961.

Today, Cutty Sark remains known for its smooth flavor profile, with standout expressions like the Original blend and the bold Prohibition Edition. Its legacy of innovation and global appeal has made it a lasting symbol in the world of Scotch whisky.
